Mobilizing Your Church

Mobilizing Your Church

by Jeffrey Aaron

American churches are responding in huge numbers to help get the Gospel to Africa’s unreached peoples. But more are needed. “Expose (church) members … to missions,” urged Tracey Lewis, IMB missionary to Zambia.

  • Sunday morning service at Aletheia Baptist Church in Macon, GA.Start by learning about Africans living in or near your town. Visit www.peoplegroups.org. Then go to the library or Web sites to learn greetings in their languages, which will open up opportunities for friendships and sharing the Gospel.
  • Move to the next level of involvement by taking a trip overseas. Short-term trips to Africa offer a wide variety of opportunities to share faith, from camping in the bush to urban outreach. Options include evangelism, prayerwalking, medical/dental clinics, sports, community outreach and more – there really is something for everyone.
  • For whole church involvement, consider partnering with a missionary team. Help them reach their goals to share Christ with a people group.
  • Another option is to take the Gospel to a people group with no missionary presence. An IMB missionary will help and be a mentor, but the church has the responsibility to work among the people group.
  • Your church can also work alongside a national Baptist church. Spend time mentoring pastors and other leaders to empower them to reach out in their own communities.
